What is Project Internet Safety about?

  • We are a group of students from Middle Tennessee State University aiming to help parents realize the dangers of the internet and keep children safe from those dangers while browsing the internet. For more information visit the About Us page!

What are Project Internet Safety's goals?

  • We believe parents want to monitor what information their kids may send out like personal information or whom they talk to. Our goal is to provide guidelines that help create a safe and healthy environment that will aid in their development. We focus on taking measures to protect children from being subjected to traumas like human trafficking, harassment, predators, and preventing graphic material from being seen.

What ages does Project Internet Safety serve?

  • Project Internet Safety serves children of all ages.

What are children watching on the internet?

  • Everything that you have access to! Children's minds run full of imagination and so does the internet. Now we may not know exactly what your child is watching, but we know that they have the same access if not more than adults do because their interests vary. 

What social media platforms are my kids using on the internet, are they safe?

  • Kids use everything that you have access to.  In a survey we conducted, Project Internet Safety concluded that most kids are using YouTube and Snapchat. While we know that these platforms are common amongst adults, it is our goal to ensure your kid is safe while using them.

What social media platforms do you provide tips for?

  •  Our tips can be used to keep your children safe on any platform!

How is my child vulnerable to the internet?

  • The internet can be a dangerous place just like the real world. As we know children can be naive to these things. Sketchy ad campaigns, websites, chat rooms, or false links can subject you and your child's information to being leaked to hackers or your child speaking to a shady character. 

What threats are my child exposed to on the internet?

  • While there are many dangers in the world. We focus on tools that help your children stay away from predators and/or adult content. As well as assist them and parents with how to handle these situations.

I don't use anything to monitor my child on the internet, is this bad? 

  • This is totally fine and normal. In a survey we conducted, Project Internet Safety concluded that 50% of parents use tools to monitor their kids on the internet and 50% do not. For both parents on each side of the spectrum, we are here to help with making things safer for your kids.

Will my child be 100% safe using Project Internet Safety’s methods?

  • We can not promise your child will be 100% safe surfing the internet with these tools. We realize that each child varies in age and behavior and some tips may work better than others. However, we can ensure that these measures are proactive, safe, and proven to keep kids safe.

How do I know Project Internet Safety is right for my kid?

  • If you care about the wellbeing of your child then this is perfect for you. If you want to stay in-the-know about threats on the internet that can harm your child give it a read! The content on this website is here to inform and educate.

Are these tools on Project Internet Safety just for me, or can I share them with my kid?

  • Of course, you can share it with your kids! These tools are catered to parents, but they are here to help children navigate through the internet as well. The safety of our children is the number one priority. In fact, we encourage you to share this information with your kids.

Do I have to buy anything?

  • No, we do not have anything for sale. This website serves as a tool for parents to gain knowledge on protecting their kids on the internet!

Can I donate to Project Internet Safety?

  • We do not accept any cash, gifts, and/or donation. If you are looking to give back, fill out a contact slip to be notified by new postings and surveys to better help keep kids safe on the internet!
